research and planning

i have decided to make a little more research in terms of my target audience, because i would like my Magazine to clearly show the what my target audience is aimed at. I have just researched the things that would attract girls to a magazine.

-The colours: pastel colours can be quite strong. Pink, Purple are probably the colours which attract girls and therefore teenage girls will certainly get attracted it.
-The font: The font has to be appealing for the girls, quite funky, clear and easy to read. Big and bold will attract teenage girls. Especially if there is special gifts or even topics which attract them.

Planning

The whole idea of me taking the previous photo of molly was to be able to use that photo on a front cover of a magazine which i will create in this post. The idea of making this is to see how different photos suit the idea of my magazine being busy and colourful. I personally feel that this picture wouldn't be very useful for the magazine but therefore by doing this exercise it will allow me  to see what to change when taking the photographs.

I personally feel that the lighting in this photo is not the best and the way Molly is positioned could have been improved. These little areas will have to be improved when taking the actual original photos for my magazine as this could have an effect on how my magazine is presented.

my first simple Draft.

After researching into the magazines like 'Top of the Pops' and ' I Love Pop' i have came to the conclusion that there isn't a specific draft for my magazine as these types of magazines are very busy and packed with so many information. Therefore it would be quite hard to set any type of specific layout because it would be hard to know what looks right around the front cover of my magazine.

I have made a simple draft of what will be included on the front however this draft may be changed just in case the magazine looks better after moving things around on the front cover. The draft is not something which is going to be a final one, because i personally feel that there is so much to do on ther front cover that i will end up changing the layout around a little bit.

Research into Similar Products

Recently i have aslo been looking at some of the female artist like Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez as a good example of how they present themselves in particular magazines as the image is something which is significant, especially, for a girl.

Arian Grande is an artist which has only recently entered the music industry and its quite easy to see her changing between different magazines which apply to different target audience. She features a lot of magazinesfor girls, whether its fashion magazine or music magazines. Her face appears quite a lot of the times. This shows that she must be very popular with younger girls. In the magazines which i have looked at she  comes across as quite a young, crazy and someone to look up to. Shes cool and always has a smiling face welcoming the readers in.
The first magazine for example is one which is not a music magazine but features Ariana which attracts that attention of it being this new pop artist. Even though she is not facing forward the way she is looking back already creates eye contact with the readers. The way she is dressed in the skater hat shows this funky and cool side to her look and personality.
The second magazine is probably another good example of how she is presenting herself to the audience of the magazine which is for young girls all about fashion and beauty. She has a good fashion sense and because of the fact its aimed at younger girls she has to look like a role model. She as a person is coming across as very welcoming, genuine and nice. This is what makes readers get their first impression which is very important.

However as the front cover changes for each magazine as the character profile for the audience aso changes and we are able to see how the imagine of Ariana Grande changes.

We are able to see the way Ariana is dressed that her outfit is far more revealing and the camera angle turns into more of shot which shows more of her body. This magazine is a perfect example of how important the image is aswell as the text around it. Some of the cover lines with words like 'Sex' and 'Bikini body plan' would certainly not be seen on a magazine for the younger girls which are in their 12's +. so i have used this as an example of how important the image and text has to be to match my target audience. And also by using the same person in different ways just shows how much the first impression changes depending on the target audience, customer profile and the actual magazine itself.

Research.

I have also been able to start looking at the types of fonts i would like on my magazine as well as the name for my magazine.

I have came up with the word 'Kandy' which is spelt incorrectly however this will create a more funkier and more girly side to the magazine. The original word candy looks boring and normal. By changing the C to K makes it a bit more cool and exciting which young teenage girls will probably like.
I like this font and for some reason i could easily imaging this name on the left third of the pop magazine. I do  really think that this looks quite funky, and it gives out the impression of it being a music magazine. It very clear and visible. The lines sort of remind me of  almost wired letters.

Another font which look pretty much like once which could be found on a pop magazine would probably be something like this.

Even though this font is completely different than the top one is looks quite fashionable in a sense, and those stars almost create the font to shine. This is definitely a font which would be probably seen when advertising a product for teenage girls inside the magazine, on a double page spread, for example.

Drafting and Planning.

To practice taking and changing any photographs for an idea of a front cover star I have chosen to demonstrate an example of how cropping has changed the picture which I have took. This is only planning which will be able to help me when taking any other photos in the future.

I have recently took a picture of Molly which I thought out of the ones I have took would have been the best for a magazine front cover. After looking through all the pictures I have took I have chose this one In particular. However i knew that the picture would have to go through some cropping exercises before it actually would have been perfect for a magazine front cover.

This is a perfect example of why the picture would have to be cropped. The background is very unnecessary  and as i know from my research before the most important feature on the front cover of a pop magazine is mainly the face. In this case i would have to crop the photo down to about a mid-shot which is what usually the main imagine of the front cover is.

Through previous research i have found out that any super start which are on the front cover have to look very welcoming and certainly make eye contact with the camera. In this photo this is exactly what Molly is doing, however we are not able to see unless the photo is cropped and zoomed.

After actually cropping the photo, it could now certainly be one for a magazine front cover. You can clearly see that Molly is making eye contact with the camera which means in a way she is making the audience welcome into reading the magazine. She is smiling which also makes the magazine even more inviting. By using a cropping exercise it has allowed me to see the change that the photo goes through and how it gives off completely different impressions to the readers.

As researched also previously, most of the pop magazine have plain backgrounds behind the pop star, In this case the background has not been removed but cropped. It would also be possible to make the background white however its not very visible in this so i personally think it wouldn't have made a huge difference.

more research..

Recently I have been looking at different websites to slowly give me an idea or at least some sort of idea for my artist name.

However I haven't decided whether this pop magazine will be featuring a solo pop artist or a pop band. This will only be the beginning of my ideas and I am hopefully looking to develop from the names I find interesting. if there is more than one name which I find really useful then I could obviously use them for the cover lines as well as adding to the information inside of the magazines contents.

I have came across this website in particular which seemed to give me a brief idea of any names to consider or at least help me out with what i could be looking for. This website asked for a key word to include in the band name and this would then generate a band name and use the key word which I have picked.

Now even though this website seemed, for the first time, to potentially help me when choosing my band name it has actually been a complete opposite and inf act this website has actually not helped me at all. This just shows that this website will not be a useful source to use now and it wouldn't be something i will be going back to use in any further planning of my magazine.
